A Look Into The Future: What Will The Best Bedside Cot For Newborn Industry Look Like In 10 Years?
The Best Bedside Cot For Newborns
A bedside crib is a bassinet-style crib that attaches to the mattress's side. This makes it simple to get your baby to sleep for a relaxed feeding. They're suitable from birth to around six months.
Official safe sleeping guidance from both the NHS and The Lullaby Trust recommends newborns sleep in a separate cot to parents' beds in order to reduce the risk of SIDS. The best bedside cots allow this.
1. Arm's Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper
In the early days of co-sleeping, a novel idea, a mother-and-father team came together to form Arm's Reach and came up with a design that would allow parents to be able to sleep comfortably with their infants. It was the first bedside cot that allowed babies to sleep close by without getting suffocated or falling onto the mattress or onto the parent's side of the bed. The Clear-Vue is still in widespread use in the present, with over 25 years of history and no reported injuries or deaths.
It comes with leg extensions built-in to adjust to different mattress heights and includes sheets and a fitted cover. The bassinet is meant for infants from five to six months or until they begin pushing up on their hands and knees depending on when that happens. The Co-Sleeper is an infant bassinet that can be used as a stand-alone unit or affixed to the mattress of the parent using the included strap and plate. The Co-Sleeper is easy to switch between both modes by pulling a string. However it doesn't meet federal standards as an attached bed. Therefore, your baby should not be left alone.
McKenna was awed by the Co-Sleeper's accessibility, noting that it's easy to get infants into and out of the bassinet for middle-of-the-night feedings or other care requirements from your bed. He also praised the safety of the Co-Sleeper and said that it is in compliance with all crib and baby bassinet standards. It's been in the market for a long time and "about 1.5 million units have been sold" with no reports of infant accidents or deaths.
The Clear-Vue bedside crib was the most accessible of all the cots we tested. Its swiveling bed and height adjustment allowed you to easily reach into and soothe your baby. Other models had lower sidewalls that required you to reach over and over or crouch down to reach your child however not the Clear-Vue.
The Clear-Vue was the only one in our top five that didn't connect to the bed of the parent. However, it was a close second and far superior to a few of the other models we tested, which were designed to be connected to parent beds. It's sturdy and solid with plenty of storage.
2. HALO Bassinest
The HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper is a unique bedside cot that can rotate 360 degrees to bring baby close and makes it simpler for parents to get into and out of bed. It also has a lower wall that allows moms to care for their babies without having to get out of the bed. This is an excellent feature for nursing mothers who need assistance with feeding their newborns in the first months and weeks following delivery.
The Bassinest comes with mesh walls on the sides that allow plenty of airflow, and the Swivel feature is perfect for parents who want to keep an eye on their child throughout the night. The ability to watch the baby and keep them in close proximity can make a huge difference in the grumpy delirium that comes with being a new parent.
This model scored excellent scores in the Convenience test which rated features that make it easy to use and clean--a necessity for anyone who is dealing with diaper blowouts and spit-ups which are all too common in the first few months of life. The Bassinest is lightweight and can be cleaned down with water and the mattress pad is washable as well. It has a side pouch for diapers and nipple lotion which you will need in those sleepless first days of motherhood.
There are a variety of models of Bassinest. One is the standard Essentia that comes with no extra features. Another is the LUXE Plus series, which has white noise and vibrating to help babies fall asleep and stay asleep. Both models include mattresses, a fitted sheet, and a large storage caddy that's larger than the storage pouches on other Bassinest alternatives.
The LUXE PLUS series also has the option of lowering the wall lock that is sturdy and stable, a base that can be adjusted to fit most beds between 22" to 34", a floor lamp which helps you see your newborn throughout the day and a storage caddy that can store any additional bedding or items. It isn't suitable for travel due to the weight and size, however the swivel feature is great to keep your baby close when you're at home.
3. Joie Roomie Glide
This co-sleeper by English brand Joie was created to create the bond between parents and children a reality. It's more than just a crib. It allows you to sleep next to your child without sharing the bed. Feed, soothe or snuggle your baby from the peace of your own bed and take in every moment of the newborn stage.
The Joie Roomie Glide Cot is simple to clean and use. It's a great choice for parents who want to sleep in a safe environment with their newborn. Its cocoon-shaped rounded design, soft padding on the sides and a double mesh window allows you to observe your baby's sleep from your sofa or bed. The sliding side panel can be lifted and lowers with a single hand, making it easier to respond to those late night wakeup calls. The gliding motion gently soothes your little one into a restful sleep so you can enjoy an excellent night's rest too.
The crib is equipped with a removable, washable mattress. It's also light and sturdy. It has four lockable wheels to ensure it stays in place, and is backed with a rubber-coated material to protect scratches on the floor.
One of the best things that is unique to the Roomie Glide is its adjustable height. You can adjust the legs to match the height of your couch or bed, so that it stays in perfect alignment with your newborn's mattress. This is particularly helpful if you're breastfeeding as it allows you to feed your baby close without leaving your bed. The height also helps minimise the chance of your child falling out of the crib.
Another useful feature is the built-in rocking function that is perfect for babies. Two buttons located on the sides of the crib trigger the baby's body in a gentle way that is relaxing and soothing for your baby. You can select an easy or a active tempo. The glide function can be locked once your baby is fast asleep.
The only downside of the Roomie Glide cot is that it is only suitable for newborns. It is recommended to upgrade your baby's bed to a bigger cot when he or she is six months old (normally around the time they move into their room). Roanna found it to be an excellent cotbed and would recommend it.

The Bjorn Cradle is an excellent option for parents who want a simple, stylish bedside cot. Its simple design looks great in any space and is simple to use and set up. In addition to its compact size its light weight makes it simple to move from room room. It is easy to clean, and is able to be washed in the machine with the mattress pad. It is important to remember that the cradle should never be used in conjunction with any other padding mattress, pillow bedding, or comforter, since this could create the risk of suffocation for infants.

This includes placing your baby on their backs for every nap and when sleeping in the cradle. You should also put the cradle down when your baby begins to push up on their knees or hands or reaches 8kg/18lbs.
